And as I listen to my programming of the SAndy Denny Anthology on my
CD player, and my kittem Marty explores the great outdoors as I have opened
the back porch door for him I have to say that in the past week I have
been exclusively reading women poets: Tracy Ryan, Sheenagh Pugh and
Neile Graham. And without apologies to this list the book that I have
savoured was Sheenagh Pugh's Stonelight. She is a poet
and can write a poem. Very enjoyable. I think Sharon OLds
is the bigger poet but I would have to catch up on a Sheenagh Selected
to prove that (and there doesnt seem to have been one since 1990).
Sheenagh Pugh is typical of the best of curreent British mainstream
poetry. As I said she can write a poem. Sharon OLds digs into your
vitals in a way the genteel British avoid. But both are goofd poets.
