I think I'm making a crude point, but perhaps it's more subtle than I
think. I'm not saying it's easy, or necessarily pleasant. The problem
of Sade is not a dullness of sensibility, even if the effect of his work
is a desert of tedium, but an excess of a peculiar consciousness which
illuminates a problem of consciousness itself.
But I'm going on too much.
