The attribution of the Patronage of Homoeroticism to Saint Sebastian, The
Arrowed , is probably due to the delicacy and beauty of the Iconography of
this Saint, which presents him as a victim of social persecution rather that
of a Religious one (a persecution acted publically, with persistent
malignity, (the martyrdom by harrowing is as terrible as lapidation )in the
name of some common values of Heterosexual decency ).
See the Antonello Da Messina's interpretation of San Sebastiano's Martyrdom,
in the public square, standing naked. I agree, it is rather creepy since
being so sensual, it is very allusive of raped juvenile body.
