Poetry -- the dream of a unified field. As long as we accept
dreaming not as passive occurrence but as lucid activity, and
accept that unity is a necessesary illusion. The politics of
intimacy and essential illusion as expressed via language, perhaps.
Or as Laing would have it, the politics of experience, as refracted
through language by design.
Perhaps also, poetry raises language to the level of a bodily
function (the body which is also mind). Providing not only comfort
for the tongue but intelligence for the ear.
Poetry makes language the sixth sense.
