Make mine a Joan COLLINS, who was quoted in a recent interview as
touting the nutritional benefits of sardines, which, she says, are
"full of DNA, and we should all eat lots of DNA." How d'ya like
them apples?
And if this has become a para-pata-cookery thread, let me add my
own favorite cookbook advice for low-tech temperature checking to
Randolph's flour-pour contribution: as a test for (frying) oil
heat by those who would prefer not to stick their digits in it,
the age-old, sure-fire method is throwing in a few drops of cold
water. When the oil is hot enough for quick-sauteeing, the droplets
will be "fairly dancing."
Thanks, Matthew, for your stanzas from one of the best songs the
Beatles ever wrote (IMHO). I wish I could add a quote from a
Stones classic that the "UN thread," if it really is one, has
called to mind but not so well as to be sure I'd gotten the lyrics
right--"Memo to Turner." (Anybody care to chime in with a line or
two?) I'll have another listen myself tonight and maybe post some
of it tomorrow. Also plan to pick up the video of Kieslowski's
_Blue_ on the way home to refresh my memory of its plot (and have
another listen to its gorgeous Otto Prizner [sp.?] score). As I
recall, it's about a composer's dream to have a symphony inspired
by the dream of world peace broadcast simultaneously in as many
countries as possible--a perfect dream that comes to grief, though
not to nought, because it's the dream of an imperfect person like
the rest of us. _Blue_ is a sort of parable on that conundrum, in
fact. Highly recommended--
Candice
