Take 2 --
Hi Joseph,
Getting very late here so I'll keep it (mercifully) brief --
Yep, I've come across Goia's work/ opinions, in the formalist
magazine The Dark Horse. Wouldn't necessarily accept this
line of thinking -- I was attempting a bit of devil's advocacy above.
Just chasing a few ideas out of the bushes to see how far they'd
run . . . .
>attack on Modernism & free verse is another form of anti-intellectualism<
I've never understood this assumption . . . . is this a case of
actively dumbing-down, or more a case of abandoning the
post-Eliot 'see footnote' industry? What may be taken as
intellectual by one may be taken as academic by another --
don't think the two are synonymous. Otherwise Keats was an
idiot.
I'd be interested to hear more about the W.S. Journal -- is there
an emphasis on essays about his work, or is the title a broad
banner for poetry in that tradition?
Andy
