in agreement with Bill on this issue.
Clarity is not an absolute against which sense can be measured. What
is perfectly clear to one will be mud to another. Perhaps what might
have been got at was 'intent'. Roddy's sense of laziness might then
be considered as residue in a lack of attention to detail for
example, in a denial of the possibilities that the poem offered (both
for reader and writer), in a satisfaction with juiceless
compositional modes (dull reiteration - i.e. without any redeeming
humours through self-awareness of their purposeful dullness) . . . ?
