Concur with Mairead on this -- but there STILL isn't a decent edition of
Anne Bradstreet.
Berryman wasn't trying to do a woman's voice, but writing a lovelettter to
AB.
It did (didn't it?) help to get AB's poetry "noticed".
On the other hand, Katherine Phillips was edited by a Welsh clergyman ...
I'd rate (if these ratings mean diddly squat) Anne Bradstreet as the Third
Metaphysical after Donne and Marvell but before Herbert and Vaughan.
But if you want to teach her, you have to produce your own texts. The Men
are nicely anthologised, AB not ...
