Well, Alison, in the (just-out) November Australian Book
Review you seemed to find quite a shortage of
skill in Lauren Williams Invisible Tatoos and
Lyndon Walker's So Mamy Rivers, So Much to Learn.
Your review on pp 53-54 finishing:-
'The problem is the complacencies behind these poems,
the egocentric incuriousities of their poetics. Failure is not
possible, because so little is being attempted.'
'The emotions are not skilled workers' but to paraphrase
Ern Malley,
I'm also not at all sure the antipodeans are skilled workers,
though the best have great techniques. I'm surprised
too that the above reviewer doesn't agree.
cheers
Hugh
