I actually find ostentatious displays of cleverness rather thrilling. I like
the challenge they throw down, given the fact that most people are terribly
annoyed by them. Like the spectacular winning entry in an unpopularity
contest - worthy of admiration in its own right. I like the kind of poetry
that would get itself beaten up if it recited itself in a pub - not only
that kind, but that kind also. I like it a lot better than I like any of the
people who would be doing the beating-up, anyhow...
