It's symbolically powerful. A generation that was taken off whilst still at
school to see newsreel footage of the liberation of Belsen is pretty much
guaranteed to be shocked by a lot of the imagery involved. A generation that
wasn't - my generation, give or take a bit - will tend to exploit that shock
value, almost always without interrogating its provenance, for the sake of
annoying its elders. It's cruel and stupid, but there it is.
