Hugh
I don't know what the usual ethics are for readers' reports, but perhaps
in publication they might be given the same consideration as all private
correspondence.
But the implications of this bother me:
>Something that concerns me is that, if it is seen as acceptable
>to publish reader's reports at all: poets early in their career could
>suffer untold harm.
This depends whether you think it is the poetry that matters, or what is
said about it. Does a negative review erase an artwork entirely? If so,
Ibsen would be no more. Presumably you've read a few contemporary
reviews of The Wasteland... Give it a few years, and it's the critics who
look silly.
And I have real trouble conceiving of poetry as a "career".
Best
