This is one of several good reasons for people not to quote extensively
and unnecessarily from the posts they are replying to.
Others are that it increases downloading time drastically for those who
have a slow connection, costs real extra money to those who pay for their
connection by the hour, uses up mailbox disk space quotas to the point of
risking disabling the mailbox, wastes huge amounts of space in the mailbase
archive, and probably others I could think of if I tried.
Would those of you who have your mailer defaults set to automatically
include the full text of what you're replying to (what idiot designed that
feature anyway?) please out of courtesy to the rest of us and for the good
reasons mentioned above toggle that feature off and not quote in your
replies any more of the original text than is necessary? Be assured good
karma will accrue. Thank you very much indeed.
(By the way when I first saw this Subject: field I thought that this
thread was going to be about Pound's first book. Pity.)
-
But strength alone though of the Muses born
Is like a fallen angel: trees uptorn,
Darkness, and worms, and shrouds, and sepulchres
Delight it; for it feeds upon the burrs
And thorns of life; forgetting the great end
Of poesy, that it should be a friend
To soothe the cares and lift the thoughts of man.
