The operative words are "I'm very new to this list..." You're way off base.
John rarely intervenes and is very slow to correct, and he's a civilizing
influence, which large groups of people who can't see each other need from
time to time. Before you challenge observe for a while. It's certainly not
a good thing when people react to the list by leaving or retreating into
silence.
