Dear All
I recently had a client, 32 years old, female recently, who was
diagnosed as broken sesamoid of left foot, 2 years ago by x-ray.
She had left ankle fracture at age 12.
She did figure-skate regularly till age 15 years old.
She felt discomfort long time since then and saw a orthopaedist.
The doctor found that one sesamoid was broken and it can see 3
sesamoids. The doctor told her there is not any method to cure.
She does not remember when and how the sesamoid was broken. Maybe
due to the shock of frequent jump by figure skating.
Now she still has discomfort with high heel shoes, but she has
to wear those during the job (sedentary job. She wears low heel
shoes with valgus filler during her free time, which make her
comfort.
I found LLD (R > L), also followings,
Right / ankle equinus, 5 degree inversion(both RCSP/NSCP)
Left / ankle equinus, 5 degree inversion (NCSP)
I advised calf stretch for ankle equinus and shoe education.
Regarding the orthosis I recommend to have valgus filler and/or
met dome from my limited range of orthosis.
I wonder if there are any surgical management, or others, I would
like to help her. I checked the text, immobilisation or other
method supposed to be to late now. Is the surgical removal only
one option?
Please give advice.
Kind regards
Mayumi Ozaki
