I recently seen a right leg amputee (prosthetic limb) as his last resort to
faith in the health system. He's been to another podiatrist and orthopaedic
surgeon for this ongoing problem in his left 5th TMTJ for 1 year.
Examination shows no swelling nor deformity, discrete tenderness over the
5th TMTJ and insertion of peroneus brevis. Extreme pain TMT movement and
lateral weight transfer, also pain around sinus tarsi area. X-Ray six weeks
after pain = NAD. Orthopod gave cortisone injection (obviously temporary),
other pod gave forefoot pad + heel raise = caused increased pain. I have
suggested further scans to rule out peroneal rupture, avulsion (I didn't see
X-ray) etc. My treatment was lateral padding as temporary relief. It has
been seven days, and the gentleman rang today to express sincere thanks for
the relief. However, this is temporary. Is this a common injury in
amputees? Any suggestions?
