Dear all:
I am starting my Ph.D. related to history design. A related term is
design reuse, although redesign could be understood as a the same
concept.
Although I've been reading some papers related to design reuse, I would
like to know the different concepts that you may have of these two
terms.
In broad terms, as I understand design reuse is to take a previous
design (our own design or someone else's design) and make some changes
to improve the product, e.g. less weight, increase production, safer,
faster.
Redesign, even though it achieves the same purpose as in reuse of
design, it implies major changes, even the principle in which the design
bases its work.
This is my point of view, I am open to a nice discussion and
constructive criticism.
This will help me to have a clearer idea of the difference between
redesign and design reuse.
Thanks in advanced
Adrian
