Conference Announcement and Call for Papers and Exhibits

------------------------------------------------
EXCHANGE 2000: Research in Art, Media and Design
------------------------------------------------

The third 'Exchange' conference will be held on 2nd and 3rd
November 2000 at the Watershed Media Centre, Bristol, UK.

Two conferences hosted by the Faculty of Art, Media and
Design at the University of the West of England, Bristol,
in October 1998 and February 1999, brought together
researchers from across the UK and European art and design
community. This third event will enable participants to
explore current debates, learn about funding
opportunities, report on work in progress and join in
discussions about the future of research in art, media and
design.

Presentations are invited for papers, virtual exhibits, and
posters on work in progress. Research outcomes, including
computer graphics, animation and short films, can be also
submitted for the evening screening session.

Contributions are invited on work in progress, particularly
if they cover current PhD programmes or the work of both
new and long-standing research centres. We also welcome
contributions on the increasing importance of the digital
'medium' as well as the digital 'tool' in order to include
discussion of digital resources for research. All
contributors are invited to address the relationship of
theory to practice and their particular methodological
concerns within art, media and design research.

In conjunction with the Watershed Media Centre there will
be an opportunity to submit online work, to be shown in the
Watershed exhibition gallery and on the WWW prior to, and
during, the conference. A catalogue of these works will be
listed in the conference documentation and be part of a
refereed online conference publication.

As part of the conference, visits will be arranged to other
cultural centres in Bristol, including @Bristol, Arnolfini
Gallery, Create Centre, Royal West of England Academy,
Bristol Museum and Art Gallery and Spike Island.
