My thanks to James for his clarification of what I was (and though
somewhat tentatively now, still am) searching for. You have said what I
was thinking very well. I spent years working as an instructor for
several different outdoor education organisations in the U.S., and what
goes on in the field is very different, for me, than what the books and
articles seem to indicate goes on. I believe I said to Roger G. (last
year) that it feels like a round peg being forced into a square hole.
This is the challenge I have taken on ...
As James asked I will be posting a list of literature on outdoor
leadership both from suggestions from this list as wll as my own in about
a week. I will then be off "in the field" getting wet and cold (with a
big smile on my face!:-))) to observe some outdoor educators working
their magic. Thanks to all those who offered resources, ideas, opinions
and thoughts.
Namaste,
Steve
