Dear All
I am working with a new colleague to identify what she suspects are myths
and legends in the outdoor adventure field (for want of a better term!). She
is then going to work on writing a paper to dispel some of those myths based
on current research findings from exercise physiology.
This idea has come about through several discussions but perhaps the one
conversation that highlighted the need for me was when I realised that
'Clear colourless wee is not the best sign that you are hydrated.'
and further that there are some people that can never reach a state of clear
uring regardless of hydration state.
Other suggestions and topics for debate are:
Eating fat keeps you warm
Getting cold means you will catch a cold??
Sharing drinks bottles is ok??
Environmental, physical and psychological stress have different effects on
the body??
Kendall mint cake will decrease the senation of tiredness?
So, we are looking for further ideas of 'received wisdom' or myths that you
are suspicious about that we can include in this work. Any ideas are
welcomed and are in confidence so long as you e mail them off list to me!!
Many thanks in anticipation of your help.
Pete
