Given this one a little more thought: is there a difference between
breaking your leg walking down Chichester High Street and breaking it on
High Street? Given that the action is the result of direction from an owner
or higher body. I dont think you can say its different without reason and
more logical arguement. In my own mind the difference is that breaking
your leg in the Lake District has been preceeded by knowingly accepting that
the environment is one where there is potential real risk, even in todays
climate I'm not sure that the same can be said of Chichester High Street.
This opens up other issues, if the person who broke their leg was a novice
and therefore unable to make a reasdonable judgement of the danger, can the
two situations be seperated?
Pete.

For what its worth, I might be a tage unhappy at braking my leg anywhere.
That said, there is a subtle difference between braking one's leg in
Chichester high street, compared to braking one's leg on 'High Street,' in
the Lake District.
Give your pal some sympathy and Arnica and I suggest that this incident was
a
good example of learning by discovery!
Hope he gets well soon and continues to enjoy walking in the Lakes.
