I agree with your sentiments - it seems perfectly natural to have
this mix - surely partly evoked by the very nature of the outdoors.
Another book which approaches learning, in what seems to me to
be an most enlightened style of prose / poetry is Bernice
McCarthy's book "About Learning" (1996, Excel). I think that this
would "count" as an academic book, but is unlike any other text
that I have come across on how we learn from experience.
