As the person who seemed to stir up this debate by being quite honest about
not reading as much research as he should, it is a good job that I am also
thick skinned.
Yes, the research is very important and we could all do with being more aware
of it. However, I believe we should not put it on a pedestal at the expence
of the great wealth of experience that is out there in the daily world of
occupational health practice, accepting the fact that sometimes we have to
take the good with the bad and form our own judgements. For every good piece
of research I have read, I have also read plenty that I wouldn't paper the
toilet wall with (not yours Stewart).
As someone who has been in OH for a while and who manages a large service
(well, so I'm told), I am more than happy to help and share views, opinions,
research and general OH chitchat by phone and email with anyone who wants to
be part of a healthy and non disparaging debate.
Can we call a halt now please while we all think of another topic to throw in
the internet ring.
