Hello Kevin,
I'm pleased to make you acquaintance and that of other list members. My
present
fancy title is that of "Medical/Health and Safety Advisor" to an engineering
company. In essence it is a combined role of Occupational Health Nurse and
Health and Safety Advisor. I am currently undertaking a MSc in Practitioner
Research. My real interest is minor hand injuries in engineering settings.
My definition of a "minor" hand injury is "An injury to the hand, thumb or
fingers (but excluding the wrist) that results in less than three days
absence
from work or normal duties."
I know there is a lot of work on risk perception, error and organisational
factors etc but here seems to be a dearth of literature on the specific
subject
of minor injuries. This might be expected since "minor" injuries do not
feature
in HSE , RoSPA or the Engineering Employers federation statistics.
I suspect that most companies address minor injury as part of their
general
accident prevention/reduction strategies but their reports are unpublished.
Does
any one have any useful references, or know of any one conducting similar
studies. who might be willing to talk to me?
Regards,
Mary
