Invitation to the Verdi 2001 International Convention

The National Committee for the Celebrations of the First Centenary of
Verdi's death, together with the Istituto Nazionale di Studi Verdiani and
the American Institute for Verdi Studies, are jointly organizing an
International Conference, the first phase of which will take place in
Parma (24-27 January 2001), the second in New York and New Haven (29
January-1 February 2001). The conference will be arranged around a series
of round tables, each with a position paper and respondents invited by the
Scientific Committee; there will also be free papers, grouped under common
themes. The Scientific Committee now invites proposals for free papers,
around twenty of which will be selected for presentation at the
conference. Proposals should contain the title of the paper, an abstract
of not more than 250 words (in Italian or English), and a brief cv.
Proposals will be particularly welcome if they address the diffusion and
reception of the music of Verdi, or his changing image as a composer -
whether during his lifetime or in subsequent periods up to the present
day. Those submitting proposals should also indicate the venue where they
would prefer to give their talk: either Parma or New York. The Scientific
Committee reserves the right to decide where a given proposal will be
presented (this in order to gather together papers with related topics).
Those eventually invited will be offered return travel from their home
town to the venue where they will deliver their paper, together with board
and lodging for the duration of the relevant phase of the conference.
Proposals, together with the materials and information mentioned above,
must arrive (either by post, fax or e-mail) at the following address by 30
April 2000 at the latest:
