I have heard of something called the "Bradford Disaster Scale" which
originated at Bradford University. It is applicable to all disasters, and
gives a "magnitude" of a disaster as
M = log F
where F is the number of fatalities. In which case the worst earthquakes
come in at a little under magnitude 6, while a landslide would not normally
go over 2 or maybe 3 (excepting a few extremes like Huascaran).

I would be grateful for any information/resources on scales to measure
hazards. The way there are scales (Richter, MM...) for earthquakes and
(SS..) for cyclones, are there any scales to measure droughts, landslides,
storm surges etc.????
