Dear Mihir,
I hope and expect that you are in fine form. I am writing to inform you of two things. Firstly ECHO will make an appeal for S. Asia projects in November. Nick is still interested in making a submission. I believe the proposal we thought up in December will still be valid. But I also believe we should limit it to activities 2 and 3 (state level training curricula and support to the NSAG) - the testing in communities as well may be too ambitious. Please tell me your thoughts.
Secondly, BGHRC is helping a new tv/internet company with its reporting on hazards and disasters. They are considering offering local disaster news etc on their web-site and on their news reports. Attached is a concept note which they are quite excited about. Would DMI like to be considered as a Core partner? As you can see I will negotiate rates for any activity conducted by partner organisations. NOW will make the payments directly.
I hope you are still interested. If so, can I ask you to do the following:
1. Please send me a copy of your latest news bulletin or disaster management report.
2. Can you prepare a half page on a recent disaster event - from a local or even individual perspective. For example, what the current situation in W.Bengal (or another flood affected area). If possible can you send any pictures by e-mail to illustrate the story?
As you can see I am attempting to get them to cover disasters from the human perspective. Please also note that content should/will be determined locally. I hope you can respond by this Thursday. Incidentally does the DMI still have a web-site? I cant find the address.
I am travelling to Andhra later this week for the DRA. I will be at the coast until November 1 when Oxfam are hosting a two day work-shop. Has Mohana invited you or any-one from DMI. I hope so - it would be good to meet up. If not I wish you all the best and look forward to seeing you in the near future. Incidentally Mohana will be attending the ADPC course. Will you be teaching again? If you are please send my regards to Zen and also to Lies.
Many thanks,
Roger.
I hope all is well. Many thanks,
Roger
