Re Ilan's comments, I also have a copy of this book, at one point (page 220) it refers to the storm
surge as having been over 15 feet high, and eye witnesses talked about the water level rising 4
feet before they had time to get out of the way. There is also mention of the rapidity of the flow
of water. Perhaps these factors would have helped to diminish wave action.
I look forward to seeing responses to Ilan's request.
