LOCATING MOVING IMAGE ARCHIVES AND FOOTAGE SOURCES

at the BUFVC, 77 Wells Street, London W1

Intended for film scholars, librarians and industry-based film researchers,
this one-day course provides an introduction to film and television research
in archives across the UK and Europe.  It is taught by staff from the
BUFVC's specialist Information Service with contributions from professionals
working in archives and research. 

The Council has close links with film and television archives, and produces
the Researcher's Guide to British Film & TV Collections. It also holds the
databases of the MAP-TV Guide to European Film and Television Collections,
the British Universities Newsreel Project, the AVANCE database of
educational audio-visual materials, and the Television Index.

Practicalities of finding footage will be covered with sessions on film
gauges, videotape formats, and finding viewing and transfer facilities.
There will be demonstrations of Steenbeck viewing table operation, and
demonstrations of videodisc, CD-ROM and Internet sources.

Participants will have the opportunity to ask the BUFVC staff for assistance
with specific enquiries and be able to explore the Council's Information
Service, library and specialist databases.

Cost per person, per course, including light lunch and refreshments: 
GBP  95.00  (GBP 80.85 + VAT);  
discount rate for members and staff in BUFVC member institutions: 
GBP 80.00 (GBP 68.08 + VAT).  

The British Universities Film & Video Council exists to promote the study
and use of moving images in education and research.  It runs a regular
programme  of one-day courses.
