I'm sorry about the incomplete version of this message that was sent
a few moments ago. The full version is:
The Mailbase service, which has supported the m-d-n email list since its
foundation in 1993, is being replaced by something called jiscmail.
(The JISC is the Joint Information Systems Committee in the UK -
a horrible name for a service, but I suppose they want brand recognition).
jiscmail is already up and running, and in future list commands should be
sent to [log in to unmask] (instead of [log in to unmask])
and messages for distribution should be sent to
[log in to unmask]
The old mailbase addresses should continue to work for an overlap
period of "at least 6 months", but it's best is people get used to
using jiscmail instead of mailbase before the latter disappears.
I'm told that not much else has changed, and that the transition should
be transparent. We'll see.
Further details on the changeover are available at:
http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/docs/transition.htm
and other pages on the same site contain lots more information on the
service.
Good luck to all, and Merry Christmas.
