Two post-doctoral positions and between one and two Ph.D. student
positions are available in the group of Prof. Dr. F. Temps at Christian
Albrechts University in Kiel (Germany):

  ------------------------------------------------------------------------

The first post-doctoral position is connected with the set-up of a new
femto-/picosecond Ti:Sa laser system in a new, state-of-the-art
ultrafast laser spectroscopy laboratory. The system will be used for
molecular reaction dynamics studies in gas and in liquid phase
research. The aims are to use coherent excitation and coherent control
in a pump-probe configuration and to exploit the possibilities of
femtosecond stimulated emission pumping. An emphasis will be placed on
different types of unimolecular processes. The successful candidate
will initially be involved in the set-up of the laser system and the
experiments and conduct the experiments together with other group
members. Expected qualifications include a qualified Ph.D. degree in
chemistry or physics and experience with ultrashort pulsed lasers. The
position is initially offered for a two year period, with potential for
extension depending on academic research interests and agreement. An
opportunity exists to develop an independent research profile.

  ------------------------------------------------------------------------

The second post-doctoral position is connected with one of the other
projects of interest in the group: Kinetics of radical-radical
reactions, reaction mechanisms in NOx-reburning in combustion, reactions
of silicon containing radicals, quantum state-specific dynamics studies
of unimolecular processes, laser and FTMW spectroscopy of free
radicals. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. degree in chemistry or physics
and have experience with pulsed lasers, but qualified applicants with
other experience will be also considered. The position is available for
a one to two year period.

  ------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ph.D. candidates are invited to join one of several projects: (1)
Ultrafast chemical reaction dynamics studies in the gas or in the liquid
phase, (2) quantum state-resolved stimulated emission pumping studies of
the unimolecular dynamics of vibrationally highly excited molecules,
including product state measurements using ion imaging, (3) chemical
kinetics studies of NOx-reburn reactions in combustion and reactions of
Si containing radicals in SiH4 oxidation and Si CVD processes, (4)
modeling of radical-radical-reactions using ab initio quantum chemistry
and unimolecular rate theory. The Ph.D. positions are offered for
initial periods of two years with the option for extension for one to
two additional years. Expected qualifications are a diploma, master, or
qualified BS degree in chemistry (preferentially physical chemistry) or
physics.

  ------------------------------------------------------------------------

All positions are available between now and May 2001. Salaries will be
based on the German BAT scheme, depending on the positions and
qualifications. One of the post-doctoral positions may also be
established on a stipend basis with comparable income. For further
information please consult the World Wide Web at the URL
http://www.chemie.uni-kiel.de/phc and go the group home page.

  ------------------------------------------------------------------------

Interested candidates are invited to submit their applications including
CV to:

     Prof. Dr. F. Temps
     Institut fuer Physikalische Chemie
     University of Kiel
     Olshausenstr. 40, D-24098 Kiel, Germany
     fax: +49-(0)431-880-1704
     e-mail: [log in to unmask]

For the post-doctoral positions, the applications should include a brief
description of research experiences, list of publications, and two
letters of recommendation.

  ------------------------------------------------------------------------

The university of Kiel is an equal opportunity employer and applications
by women are especially encouraged.
