In reply to Dave Hardwick's recent message which in part stated:
'Members of the mining list might like to look at the constitutions of the
organisations they belong to and make suitable comments to those able to
change them'
NAMHO have discussed the fact that in some societies' constitution /
operating guidelines there is a clause about the ownership of artefacts.
When an organisation applies to join NAMHO they are often queried about this
(ref for example the application by the Cheltenham Mineral and Geological
Society). Also there has been much discussion on this subject (mostly 2 to
4 years ago) and there was a request for member organisations to examine
their constitution and change if necessary.
However another look at constitutions as suggested by Dave would be welcome.
Please encourage your mining societies to abide by the NAMHO guidelines as
in Adrian Pearce's recent message. To quote from the caving side of things
'Take nothing but photographs - leave nothing but footprints'.
