Considering that clogs would not be left because they were "expensive" was a
reaction that i expected. We could argue about how expensive they were, and
how poor the miners were, but just remember that tools were also expensive
but they were also left underground. How many times have you seen
shovels, drill steels, water bottles or detonator tins left underground?
Consider, how many of us have an old worn pair of shoes that we like to wear
when working around the house, but that would not stand up to a 20 mile
hike! Perhaps the clogs had gone from being "best clogs" to "work clogs". I
have seen both pairs and single clogs in a variety of places and there are
many ways to explain the single clog other than the one legged miner.
To put this down to superstition without any historical folklore to back it
up undermines the argument.
