If you go to http://wndowsupdate.microsoft.com and look in Products, a
program will be downloaded, will analyse your system and will tell you
precisely which security updates you need. You then click on the ones
you want (they're divided into critical, nice to have and other
categories) then it will perform them for you.
And I've now done this or it's been done by others in my section at work
on about 60 PCs and servers since 20th December and the process works.
