Dear Catherine,
There is one that you may well have heard about. When a miner came to grass
suffering from the effects of bad air, during the early 1800's it was the
practice to dig a hole in fresh earth, and the subject was to lay face down
and breath within this hole. Now, I have not actually had cause to try this
method, so I cannot say whether it works or not, but it was a practical
custom that lasted for a long time. It may have originated from Cornwall but
I cannot say. I am sure there are many other customs/remedies out there, and
I hope we will hear much on this interesting subject. I will give much
further thought on the matter & will of course advise if anything comes to
mind from the dim & distant past from old miners etc., etc.. I do not have it
immediately too hand, but doesn't De Re Metallica mention things? Good Luck
in your quest. Regards, Bernard
