If one may be flippant for a moment, mention of lists of quarries
in the U.K. reminded me that The Institute of Quarrying from time
to time published books with lists of active quarries - maybe it
still does.
Seeking a job in the U.K. in 1967 on my return from Sierra Leone
I bought a copy of the Institute's book.
Amongst the hardrock quarries listed were two consecutive entries
under the letter "P". These were:
Prinknash Abbey ( where the monks supplied stone to order )
Prisons, Her Majesty's, Dartmoor (granite)
It stuck me that, if you went about it the right way, you could get a
job for life at either.
