I have volume 1 of Practical Coal Mining by WS Boulton pub Gresham 1910. 350pp H/B.
Does anyone know of a volume 2 for sale or that I could borrow (maybe in exchange for a look at Vol 1 if you haven't got that)? Does anyone know if there was a volume 3, . . . . . ?
There is a huge amount of detail in Vol 1 covering
Geology of the Coal Measures
Composition and analysis of coal
Trial borings
Shaft-sinking
Breaking ground
Methods of working and timbering
-- -- that's just the chapter headings.
There is an average of over 1 diagram or picture on each page and loads of text, so its fascinating reading
I assume vol 2 must start off with something like
Transport of coal to the shaft bottom
Raising the coal
Processing the coal
Unfortunately I haven't got the volume which will inevitably give the =From [log in to unmask] Thu Jun 22 18:29:01 2000

This is a long shot, but I've had a request from Dick Vara <[log in to unmask]>
for help in tracing sources of information on iron ore mining in Norway as
follows -
>I am doing a research project for my local Historical Society in Dover,
>Massachusetts, USA and am seeking information about iron produced in Norway
>in 1800 and shipped to America for rolling and slitting. Is there a historian
>in Norway I could contact via e-mail to get information about this Norway
>iron material?
>
>--------
>Jeg gjør et forskningsprosjekt for mitt lokalt Historisk Samfunn i
>DoverMassachusettsUSA og søker informasjon om jern som er produsert i Norge i
>1800 og transportert til Amerika for å rulle og flenging. Er der en
>historiker i Norge som jeg kunne sette meg i forbindelse med via e-post til
>får informasjon om dette Norge jernstoff?
