Before we continue further on this it is important to distinguish between the
terms for coal size used by the mining industry and those used by the dealers -
although there is a good deal of overlap.
As a customer for industrial coal, I've come across: cobbles (or household),
doubles, singles, smalls (< 1/2" but Rossington, Yorks used to supply smalls at
<1" for industrial boilers, which is the largest size for smalls which I've come
across) as currently used terms with nuts, beans, peas etc used for anthracite
particularly. Most books on fuel or energy management give the terms with
definitions.
