Exactly, Bernard. I have been to Killhope several times since the early 90s
and have always found it an inspiration for what I am busy with in France.
So much so in fact that I was instrumental in having Killhope invited to
join the EuroMINET network of mining heritage sites created in 1999. Members
to date :
Founding members (heritage sites) :
TREVITHICK TRUST (Cornwall)
FOURNEL SILVER MINES (French Alps)
PAOLA TALC MINES (Italian Alps)
LINARES (Andalucia)
MINING HERITAGE SOCIETY OF IRELAND (Avoca/Bunmahon/Allihies)
New members :
DOLAUCOTHI GOLD MINES (Wales)
ST. YRIEIX LA PERCHE GAULISH GOLD MINES (Limousin, France)
KILLHOPE (Weardale)
PERTICARA SULPHUR MINES (Marches, Italy)
ST SALAVADOR COPPER MINES (Tuscany, Italy)
Candidate sites for membership must agree to respect a Charter which is
essentially concerned with interpretation abiding by valid scientific
research (archivistic, archaeological, ethnographical) backed up by a
permanent team of administrators & developpers. The network has as its main
aim to concretely promote these principles by offering its services to sites
wishing to achieve them.
