Don't get exited waiting for the publication of the Alderley Edge
Landscape Project...AELP as the people involved in the project call it.
That is the Manchester Museum, the Derbyshire Caving Club and
the landowners the National Trust.
The history of the National Trust and the Alderley Mines is appalling.
Vandalism and destruction on a massive scale.
December ist 1957 Territorial Army blasted
the entrance to Engine Vein Mine and severe damage to the surround area on
the orders of the national trust.
April 4 1964 Half a hundred weight of Gelignite is used to destroy
the area around the entrance to Wood mine...A known place for
findind bronze age hammer heads.
To day the access to the mines is controlled by the
Derbyshire Caving club...Anyone going down the mines in the the year
2000 will soon notice that there is nothing left in the way of
working materials left by the miners...The reason for this is that
When the policy of the national trust was realized...that is the
destruction of the mines.. The Northern Caving Club recoverd all the
mining material from the surface and from the mines.
This included... Plateways..Wagonwheels..Crucibles..Tools
Acid Bottles..to add to its vast colection
of photos and paperwork on the Mines.
Also there is in the cllection there
is a day book that covers West Mine.
SO as you see there will bw a lot of information Missing from the
Alderley Edge Landscape project.
Yours Ben Mycroft
