'One Foot in the Past' on BBC2 tonight in part featured the work being
carried out at Chatterley Whitfield by English Heritage. An impressive
colliery complex perhaps justifying the immense amount of money to be spent
on its restoration. No mention was made in the programme of its earlier
incarnation as a mining museum, and one cannot help wondering if such large
amounts of money would be needed now if the museum had survived and the
buildings had been maintained.
Unfortunately the 'One Foot in the Past' webpage tells us nothing about the
restoration work but it does have a couple of mining history links,
including the Mining History Network. Go to the following URL if interested -
