Dear Mark,
Not a lot of help, but Round Green is Just west of the M. 1 and
3 miles S.S.W. of Barnsley town centre or 1 km. west of Worsbrough
Reservoir.None of my maps show recent collieries there but the Mem.
Geol. Surv. ' Geology of the Country Around Barnsley' mentions fossils
collected by none other than Dr.Crookall, possibly around 1926, from
close to the horizon of the Barnsley Thick Coal at Round Green Colliery.
A supplement to the above book states that the Round Green area was
thoroughly opencasted before 1954.
Best Wishes
Andrew Santer
