I have a small book called "A Tap at the End of the Raa" Vol 3 (Collieries
near the Tyne), compiled by Fred Moffatt, and presumably typed, laid out,
and published by him as well.
It refers to several pits in the Walbottle area, many of them of great
antiquity, but the main one latterly was North Walbottle Colliery which was
started as late as 1892, and finally shut down on 22 February 1968.
The PDHMS list of mines in 1896 gives the manager as C Ferguson, and the
number of workers as 431 underground, 22 surface.
