I've recently been looking at a couple of companies (far away in Latin
America and the Caribbean) managed by John Taylor & Co Ltd. As I understand
things, JT was a London based mine management company that from time to time
took investment positions in its managed companies, though was quite choosy
about what was taken on - obvious frauds do not seemed to have featured in
the portfolio.
So, on to my questions:
1. What happened to John Taylor & Co Ltd? The firm was still going in the
1950's and was managing gold mines in India in the 1940's at least. What
happened to it and what happened to the records? Apart from many other
things, it apparently had one of the then-known four complete sets of the
Mining Journal.
2. Is there a biography or company history - even if ancient and/or wrong?
3. One of John Taylor's smaller contracts was the management of the gold
mines in Aruba, West Indies. Does anyone know of any records or information
relating to these mines, apart from annual reports in the inevitable
Guildhall and regular reports in the Mining Journal?
