Re: Evan Price's report
We have a dismal record of preserving our mining heritage in Canada mainly
because of the lack of funding. It will be very interesting to see whether
the preservation of the Sullivan Mining operation actually takes place. It
sounds like a wonderful project.
In the last few years I have come across many examples where the companies
were forced to clean up all signs of previous mining. They did this because
of the liability problem. After the fact, the sons and daughters and some
former miners realized they had little or few records of their mining
heritage remaining. I have heard a lot of stories of regret about this.
In Canada we should take example from what is being done through this
discussion group re UK mining history. I would be interested to hear back
from anyone interested in participating in a discussion group about
Canadian mining history.
