Ceredigion County Council has applied for planning permission to carry out
safety work on a large number of mine openings at the Cwmystwyth Mine. It is
intended to carry out work on 15 openings close to the county road
(including Level Fawr), plus the mill tailrace, blocking or severely
restricting access. As yet I have only glanced over the proposals but there
appears to be little regard to preserving the structures associated with the
openings or protecting potential archaeological features in the area.
I shall be examining the proposals and responding on behalf of the Welsh
Mines Society. The details will be posted to the Web and this list informed
as to the URL.We have only 21 days, from 19 April, to respond.
All those who have an interest in the site should contact Ceredigion County
Council, Dep of Environmental Services and Housing, Neuadd Cyngor
Ceredigion, Penmorfa, Aberaeron, SA46 0PA, and request a copy of the
proposals - application no. A000367CD.
