Borax - this is probably completely irrelevant to everything. I just
ran 'Borax' through my notes on the early London gas industry and
chemists. It comes up with the following.
1818 Early gas works orders borax sample from Brandram - chemical co
based in Rotherhithe, mainly making white lead and a range of other
chemicals
1846 Francis and White at Vauxhall made Pparian cement - a marble
cement patented by Keating. It is Gypsum saturated in borax, burnt and
ground.
1876 Borax sold by Howard and Co, of City Mills, High Street Stratford
1899 Borax Co. factory in Erith
1952 Borax Consolidated works on Bankside
I don't know if this adds up to anything.
