Death of Waterloo flood hero Thomas Manwaring GC.  Anon.  The Forester
March 17, 2000 p 1 photo.  One of the last surviving heroes of the
flooded Waterloo Pit drama 51 years ago, has died art the age of 83. 
[same page] photo, the steel archway to Mushet Walk between Coleford
town centre and Pyart Court was erected on Tuesday.  It comprises 1000
feet of textured steel rods and will serve as a reminder of the work of
Robert Mushet, who perfected the process for creating self hardening
steel. 

Proceedings of the University of Bristol Spelæological Society Vol 21 No
3 1999 p 226 mentions the Moses Rennolds family who owned coal mines in
the Bedminster area of Bristol in the 1700’s [ref Parsley 1997] this is:
Parsley, I 1997.  Moses Rennolds of Bedminster.  Malago Magazine.  The
Malago Society for Local History in South West Bristol Vol 37 (Spring)
pp 15-17 [not seen].  Sounds as if the whole runs needs abstracting.

New Mine Lights up Fags by Brian O’Connor.  Daily Mail March 21, 2000 p
75.  High in the Andes in northern Chile, one of the world’s biggest
copper mines is coming on stream.  Los Pelambres and a second mine El
Tesoro, and at the right time as copper prices have risen from 71 to 81
US cents per pound.

Paintings that probe beneath the coalface.  Anon.  The Cambrian News 23
March, 2000  p 19 photo.  The National Library of Wales at Aberystwyth
is the venue for a major exhibition of works of art produced by Welsh
coal miners - “Miner-Artists: The Art of Welsh Coalworkers”.  The
collection of 88 paintings, drawing and photographs are on display until
the 29 April.

Spanish ore find quantified, Anon.  The Irish Times March 25, 1999 p
20.  Navan Resources recent drilling at Aguas Tenidas mine in Southern
Spain shows the ore becoming richer with depth.

Permission sought to turn disused mine into land fill by Kevin
O’Sullivan.  The Iriish Times March 26, 1999  Waste Management Ireland,
the biggest waste management company in the world have applied for
planning permission to fill an opencast mine at Silvermines, Co
Tipperary.
