What about the hydraulic engines at Magpie Mine: one mine where this motive
power was used to considerable extent - indeed Derbyshire was a 'leader' at
one time. Cardiganshire mines used water very considerably for 100's of years
(well documented), and there are are a great many miles of leats and remains
still. In the USA, huge effort was made to transport water to hydraulic gold
mines etc., and some superb engineering feats were achieved. Just a short
comment! Regards, BERNARD
