You will find an account of the engines and their houses as Appendices
to A R Griffin, Coalmining (Longman, Industrial Archaeology Series,
1971). Briefly, both engines were made by the Neath Abbey Ironworks; the
pumping engine is 1845, and the winding one may be earlier. There are
moves afoot by the Welsh Mines Preservation Trust, in consultation with
Torfaen Borough Council and Cadw, to conserve this splendid site; I can
supply more information on this if you are interested.
